APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMES
 

INTRODUCTION
The Apprenticeship programmes are intended for students who do not meet entry requirements for full time Advanced Certificate programmes but who are serious to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.

The Apprenticeship programmes provide students with a basic introductory insight into the operational and skilled areas of Restaurant and Bar, Kitchen, Accommodation and Front Office operations.  They allow students to develop basic skills and technical knowledge, and provide learning experiences that are necessary for employment in the hospitality industry and related sectors.
 

PROGRAMMES ON OFFER IN 2016

·         Certificate in Restaurant and Bar  (Mahe & Praslin)

·         Certificate in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts (Mahe & Praslin)

·         Certificate in Accommodation Operations and Services  (Mahe & Praslin)

·         Certificate in Reception Operations and Services (Praslin only). 


PROGRAMME DURATION
The Apprenticeship programmes are offered over 1.5 years spread across 3 semesters.  
 

INDUSTRY PLACEMENT (Work Attachment)
Industry Placement is a fundamental component of all Apprenticeship programmes and students’ performance will be assessed. Students will be sent on work attachment to various tourism and/or hospitality establishments.

During the second and third semesters, students will be on work attachment for four to five days per week. During that time, they will also attend classes on campus for two days per week.
 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
S5 School Leavers with a keen interest in developing a career in the tourism and hospitality industry and other related sectors.
 

CERTIFICATION
Students who successfully complete their respective programme will be awarded a Certificate in the programme.
 

PROGRESSION CRITERIA
In order to progress to the second year (or third semester), students are required to meet the following criteria:

·         successfully complete all courses of Year 1 with a minimum of ‘Pass’ (55%)

·         complete all industry placement requirements for Year 1

·         demonstrate acceptable standards of professional conduct and behaviour throughout the year, which means compliance to STA’s regulations and code of conduct.
